Evaluation of grades

All partial module examinations have to be passed. The module grade is the weighted average of the partial examination grades according to the following weights:

Written exam (Competition Law): 66%

Essay on Competition Law, Competition Policy, or Theory of Competition(10 pages): 33%


The subject of the lecture is Competition Law in the broader sense. This includes the Fair Trading Law (UWG) as well as the Cartel Law (GWB/AEUV) on a German and European level.

Competencies / intended learning achievements

On successful completion of the module students will be able to
  • evaluate decisions taken by competition authorities
  • contrast the subject areas competition law is concerned with
  • assess cases and decisions of competition law or –policy
  • recommend a course of action on issues of competition policy


Literature will be announced at the beginning of the lecture.
Publications by regulatory bodies in the field of the regulation of competition, e.g. anti-trust authorities, European Commission etc.

Requirements for attendance of the module (informal)

It is recommended that students attend either the lecture Competition Law or the lecture on Competition and Regulation before writing the essay.
