Notice

One of two courses, "Introduction to Comparative Government" or "Introduction to Political Economy", has to be chosen. In the chosen course either the module exam "Introduction to Comparative Government" (90 minutes) or the module exam "Political Economy" (120 minutes) will be written.

In addition, a student performance in the form of a written exam is required in one of the three courses "Fundamentals of Adult Education", "Introduction to Sociology", "Introduction to Psychology 2: Social Processes" and "Introduction to Psychology 1: Cognition"

Lecture Fundamentals of Adult Education

Basic concepts; Institutional and legal conditions of adult education; Characteristics of Adult-Learning; adult education research.

Lecture Introduction to Comparative Government

The lecture deals with the difference between authoritarian and democratic forms of political rule and the variation of political institutions in democratic systems. One focus is the influence of institutional structures on facilitating or blocking state programs. The lecture introduces the methods of country comparison and provides an overview of the data sets relevant for country comparison. As empirical content selected countries or groups of countries as well as selected property policies in different countries are discussed.

Lecture Introduction to Political Economy

The lecture introduces the central theories and concepts of political economy and illustrates them with empirical examples. It is divided into three parts: The first is the theories of (new) political economy and its application to political science issues such as voting behavior or bureaucracy. In the second part, the lecture deals with economic policy issues, provides insights into key policy areas such as budgetary, financial, monetary or economic policy and presents explanations for interstate differences in these policies. Finally, the last part of the lecture focuses on selected approaches within the International Political Economy, focusing in particular on the growing international dependence on progressive globalization.

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to integrate social science aspects into economics, recognize their importance and derive action requirements.
