Lecture Operations Research 1:
  • Introduction to Operations Research
    • Planning methods, Planning models, mathematics of planning
  • Graph models and graph theory
    • Paths in graphs, networks, flows in graphs, transportation problem
  • Linear Optimization
    • Basic model structures, Simplex algorithm, special LP structures, different phases of Simplex, variables with lower and upper bounds, post-optimality analysis (sensitivity analysis), applications and modeling, duality
  • Integer linear optimization
    • Examples and case studies, Branch & Bound, Cutting Planes

Exercises Operations Research 1:

  • Applying the taught algorithms
  • Presenting solution of the assignments
  • Tutorials

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Successful completion of this module enables students to:
  • Understand the possible difficulties of a problem.
  • Discuss about the advantages and disadvantaged of different algorithms.
  • Understand the algorithms and use them to solve problems.
  • Categorize optimization problems and their corresponding solution methods.
  • Modify the existing methods in order to adjust them for special structures.
  • Provide mathematical models for well-structured operational decision problems.
  • Create graphical representation of the problems.
  • Suggest new solutions and discuss about the quality of alternative solutions.
