Contents

The lecture will focus on computer support for mechanical design. An outlook on the development of mechatronic products will be given. In detail, the following topics will be covered:
  • The product development process
  • Virtual product development
  • Basics of mechatronic product development
  • Basics of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Basics of Computer Aided Design in Mechanical Engineering (M-CAD)
  • CAx process chains: Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
  • CAx process chains: Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and visualization techniques (VR, AR)
  • Methods for virtual product development
  • Digital Factory

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Students will be able to
  • name, characterize and compare methods, IT tools and processes that belong in the domain of computer-aided development of technical products.
  • endorse IT solutions and methods in the context of virtual product development as essential tools for the respective engineering activities
  • give an outlook on current research in the domain of virtual product development.
