  • Apply the basic principles of turbomachinery to exhaust gas turbochargers
  • Thermodynamic cycle of internal combustion engines
  • Operating behaviour of centrifugal compressors and radial turbines
  • Rotating Stall and Surge
  • Matching of compressors and turbines
  • Design of radial turbines
  • Unsteady operation of radial turbines under pulsating flow conditions
  • Low-Cycle Fatigue, High-Cycle Fatigue and Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue

Competencies / intended learning achievements

The students will be able:
  • to match a compressor and a turbine for exhaust gas turbochargers
  • to assess the operating behavior of centrifugal compressors at part-load conditions
  • to design radial turbines and asses the unsteady turbine operation
  • to assess problems related to Low-Cycle Fatigue, High-Cycle Fatigue and Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue of exhaust gas turbochargers
