Contents

The objective of this Summerschool is to provide the fundamentals for design strategies, optimization, testing and evaluation of crash loaded structures. The lecture combines a comprehensive theoretical introduction with direct practical application:
  • Introduction to the subject
  • Basics of impact theory
  • Material selection
  • Implementation examples from the application
  • FEA for high transient processes incl. laboratory exercise
  • Experimental crash testing incl. laboratory exercise
  • Presentation of results in a colloquium

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Competencies:
  • Fundamentals of short-term dynamic loading
  • Material behavior under short-term dynamic loads
  • Knowledge of energy-absorbing and crash-stable structures and their design strategies using practical examples from the automotive and aerospace industries
  • Insight into FEM calculation
