    Depending on the examination regulations, the course work can/must be submitted as graded examination work. In this case the repetition rules of the examination regulations for practical laboratory work apply.


Using the example of a microbial fermentation (e.g. E. coli or S. cerevisiae), different sensor systems are investigated in case of disturbances of the bioprocess:
  • pH and T measurement in the bioreactor
  • Dissolved gas and exhaust gas analysis
  • Cell count determination

In addition, methods for product analysis are used:

  • Determination of the glucose concentration by means of biosensor technology
  • Determination of protein content (staining methods)
  • 2D gel electrophoresis
  • 3D fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Capillary Electrophoresis

Competencies / intended learning achievements

The students are able
  • to apply bioanalytical systems in practice, which have so far only been taught in theory during the course of studies
  • to carry out necessary analyses on bioprocesses independently
  • to evaluate the achieved measurement results in order to derive process control strategies
  • to present and discuss their results in the laboratory group
