  • Examination of forging as a manufacturing process, including in a historical context
  • Material science processes during forging (combination of temperature and mechanical processing)
  • Selection of materials
  • Basics of heat treatment of forgeable steels
  • Forging techniques

Competencies / intended learning achievements

The students are able to
  • assess the hazards of forging and actively implement appropriate protective measures to protect themselves and others.
  • classify forging in other manufacturing processes.
  • select suitable materials for forging.
  • name the material changes due to the thermomechanical effects of forging.
  • generate various application-related heat treatment states.
  • independently carry out an artisanal forging process.

Basic lecture in materials science or similar.
