Contents

  • Carrying out practical experiments on pretreatment, coating and finishing of surfaces.
  • Surface treatment with atmospheric pressure plasma.
  • PVD coating according to the sputtering principle.
  • Using the quartz-crystal-microbalance (QCM) in surface technology.
  • Image-based analysis of the wetting properties to determine the free surface energy.
  • Application of infrared spectroscopic techniques in surface analysis.

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Students will be able to
  • apply procedures for surface pretreatment, coating and finish.
  • evaluate surfaces with respect to their suitability for surface finishing processes.
  • understand the results of surface analytical methods.
