Contents

Foundations of Probability Theory:
  • basic concepts of probability theory,
  • special distributions,
  • expected value, variance, covariance,
  • law of large numbers, central limit theorem.

Basics of statistics:

  • explorative model validation procedures,
  • estimator for distribution parameters,
  • confidence intervals,
  • tests, statistical decision-making procedures and their application (including t-tests, F-test, chi-square-fit test).

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to
  • reproduce the basic concepts and statements of probability and statistics;
  • handle the terms, statements and methods of the lecture safely and independently and apply them in examples;
  • develop the concepts and methods of probabilistic theory and statistics specific to their discipline, as well as their practical application, which are needed in the further course of study, as they have developed a sound basis for the proper handling of these concepts and methods;
  • model statistical problems from the economy and process and solve them using mathematical methods.

Requirements for attendance (informal)

Basic knowledge in analysis (differentiation and integration) as taught in the introductory mathematics courses of the respective study programmes.
