Contents

In this lecture the connections between the courses taught in the program of socioinformatics are clarified, for example:
  • What are socio-technical systems and how can they be modeled?
  • How do people behave online and offline?
  • What legal questions can arise in socio-technical systems?
  • What business models exist in web-based systems?

In the exercises, students work on socioinformatics topics in small groups and publish them using a wiki or blog.

Typical scenarios for socioinformatics are discussed in the lecture series by invited speakers. Possible topics include the influence of social network platforms on protest movements, data protection issues or the use of Liquid Feedback for e-democracy movements.

Competencies / intended learning achievements

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to
  • to describe possible fields of application and challenges of socioinformatics,
  • explain the connection between the modules and how they contribute to a course of study in "socioinformatics ",
  • identify and name typical issues in the domain of socioinformatics,
  • to distinguish socioinformatics from related fields such as the sociology of technology,
  • for the lectures of the bachelor's program as they are related to socioinformatics,
  • to prepare topics of socioinformatics, based on academic publications, reliable internet sources and articles from the press, and to publish them online
