Contents

The lecture addresses the difference between authoritarian and democratic forms of political power and the variation of political institutions in democratic systems. One focus is on the influence of institutional structures on enabling or blocking state action programs. The lecture introduces the methods of cross-country comparisons and provides an overview of the data sets relevant for cross-country comparisons. The empirical content will be selected countries or groups of countries as well as selected policies in different countries.
