Contents

The section „International Studies“ schedules a stay abroad in the third semester. In order to ensure that students are able to complete their studies within the prescribed period of study, the following options are offered to successfully complete the module “Term Abroad”:
  • Option A - study abroad at a foreign university: Students should show a high degree of initiative in organising their study abroad. The students select the courses (of at least 12 CP) independently in consultation with the course directors and advisors. If needed, they receive recommendations for suitable programmes and courses at universities abroad from the course directors and advisors. Courses from recognised FM degree programmes and other complementary master courses can be included, if they are free of redundancy with the FM master programme of the TU Kaiserslautern. The approval of the selected courses as suitable study contents must take place before the beginning of the module "Term Abroad". Excess credit points earned abroad can be credited in the section “Elective Studies”.
  • Option B - within the framework of research projects in cooperation with a foreign university or research institution (Cooperation with international companies is permissible if the activity is relevant to research): Students should show a high degree of initiative in organising their stay abroad. If needed, they receive recommendations for suitable universities or research institutions abroad from the course directors and advisors. The preparation and approval of an exposé for the project report is to be performed as a preliminary examination.
  • Option C - participation in master courses, held in English from the student ́s place of study or residence: The students select the English-language courses (of at least 12 CP) independently in consultation with the course directors and advisors. The approval of the courses as suitable study contents must take place before the beginning of the module "Term Abroad". Excess credit points can be credited in the section “Elective Studies”. Performance of Option C is only possible on a justified application (e.g. in case of illness, child care etc.) approved by the examination board (Prüfungsausschuss).

The courses or research projects are to be specified by the students within the framework of the pre-seminar (IS1). The selection is to be justified. Course achievements made at foreign universities can also be submitted as elective modules upon application. A stay abroad of at least four months is the recommended and preferred form of the Module “Term Abroad”.
