Evaluation of grades

All partial module examinations have to be passed. The module grade is the weighted average of the partial examination grades according to the following weights:

Contents

  • Wood is a natural material with very complex mechanical and physical properties: porosity, inhomogeneity, anisotropy, viscoelasticity, hygroscopicity, permeability, durability, heat capacity and reaction to fire. The focus of the project is the constructive and structural consequent handling of wood considering tectonic factors. Project topics are offered from the research activities in timber construction (T Lab). Project tasks are formulated for the students which are represented in designs, architectural and constructive drawings and illustrations as well as in a mock-up on a scale of 1:1.

Desired learning outcomes:

Students who successfully complete this module are able to,

  • design and construct with wood using joining principles in timber construction and structural wood preservation appropriately for the materials used
  • determine fields of research in timber construction and incorporate the findings in designs and constructions
  • recognize and apply the interdisciplinary dependency of architecture, structure and material
  • represent design ideas by building realistic 1:1 models and prepare construction details functionally
