Globalisation opens up new opportunities for architects and urban planners to act globally. However additional qualifications, such as knowledge of the respective, initially foreign cultural area are necessary. In this course students are above all given an overview of the main features of Islamic architecture. Individual areas and questions regarding the Islamic cultural area, paramountly from the 10th century onwards, are discussed alternately and adeptly each semester. Depending on the topic of the semester, urban and architectural development, functionality or morphology are analysed and associated with other oriental features such as religion, tradition or climate if applicable.
