Evaluation of grades

All partial module examinations have to be passed. The module grade is the weighted average of the partial examination grades according to the following weights:

Referat (30%)/Hausarbeit (70%)


A new art-historical area of focus is chosen every year. The focus is on:
  • Aspects spanning several epochs
  • Functional and contextual analyses of historical works of art from different epochs from the ancient world to the present
  • Developments of historical building constructions
  • A critical examination of architecture and history of art works

Desired learning outcomes:

Students who successfully complete this module are able to,

  • analyse works of art from different epochs in their different functional, spatial and culture- historical contexts.
  • recognize historical connections and artistic trends
  • develop scientifically relevant questions and cognitive interests
  • reflect on architectural history writing in its historical relativity
  • research essential observations and facts about works of art, prepare them orally and in writing and present them to a group
