Contents

Part 1 (Awarding of contracts): The parties involved in the building project, their jobs and tasks as well as their contractual relationships; awarding of contracts (BGB – German Civil Code/VOB – German Construction Contract Procedures): Specification of services with bill of quantities or range of services (functional), mathematical, economic and technical checking and evaluation of offers. Validity period, conclusion of a contract, approval forms, rectification of defects, deadlines;

Class exercise: examples ABC analysis and cost-benefit analysis

Part 2 (project management): project organisation; organisation of structure and process; project management: construction process planning and control, cost planning and control, capacity planning and control, contract planning and control, management information systems;

Class exercise: exercise task for cost estimate; exercise tasks for scheduling (Gantt chart, V/Z-diagram, calculation methodology in network analysis)

Desired learning outcomes:

Students learn the legal, economic and technical basics of the award of construction performance contracts and the components of project management during building construction. They understand the influences of time, capacity and costs. They are able to prepare tender and contract documents for buildings and to calculate the costs for constructions. They are qualified to plan, supervise, monitor and manage the execution of constructions.
