Contents

Building construction II and design
  • Architectural design in the context of a city: basic elements of a city (street, square, apartment building, plot, house, courtyard and garden); typology of a city house; internal structure and outside appearance; closed and open buildings; hierarchy of public and private spaces; roads and places; texture and monuments; city and countryside
  • Methods and instruments of urban analysis; architecture and masonry
  • Principles of solid constructions on the basis of masonry construction
  • Joining and connecting, the interaction of construction and form, of material and texture/ material bases/ construction analysis of historical and contemporary architecture

Building studies

  • Recognizing the qualities and differences of types (typology) and placing them in relation to a classification system
  • Focus on residential constructions, although the aim is to build a bridge for students between their own experiences of life so far and architecture in practice
  • The contents of the lectures are directly related to the design task

All School Charrette, one week working on a task in small groups of students from different semesters

Desired learning outcomes:

Students who have successfully completed this module will be able to,

  • deal with available resources e.g. land, buildings and infrastructure responsibly
  • implement simple architectural design tasks in context and evaluate them with regard to their correspondence of construction, form and typology.
  • design architecturally and appropriately for the material involved and for the purpose of a precise implementation of the concept and design idea
