Competencies / intended learning achievements

1. Lecture

The students will be able

  • to describe and assess the flow around airfoils and through axial cascades
  • to assess the operating behavior of turbomachinery in systems
  • to apply different control methods for turbomachinery
  • to explain design methods for axial and radial turbomachinery

2. Tutorial

The students will be able

  • to design airfoils and airfoil cascades based von NACA data
  • to select appropriate turbomachinery for a system with respect to efficiency, , operational reliability and compliance of specific boundary conditions, e.g. cavitation
  • to design axial compressors and axial turbines
  • to design radial compressors and centrifugal pumps
