Contents
Based on the lecture Strömungsmaschinen II, where the students learn how to calculate the main dimensions of axial and radial turbomachinery, in this lecture the next steps in the development process of turbomachinery are explained. It is shown how the 3D geometry of an impeller and volute casing is designed. Also, the students learn how to calculate the flow and characteristic numbers of turbomachinery based on CFD simulations. Examples shown in the lecture a based on axial and radial compressors, centrifugal pumps and radial turbines.
Competencies / intended learning achievements
The students are able:
- to apply software tools for design 3D of turbomachinery components.
- to create a CFD model for turbomachinery simulations
- to apply different methods for designing different types turbomachinery
