Basedata
Possible Study achievement
- Verification of study performance: proof of successful participation in the practical course / lab
- Examination number (Study achievement): 10927 ("CAE with Composite Materials")
- Details of the examination (type, duration, criteria) will be announced at the beginning of the course.
Regular and active participation in laboratory appointments, intensive pre- and postprocessing. Grading is possible on the basis of a final presentation of the results followed by a discussion.
Depending on the examination regulations, the course work can/must be submitted as graded examination work. In this case the repetition rules of the examination regulations for practical laboratory work apply.
Contents
For the design of components and processes, simulation based on finite element analyses is widely used. Therefore, numerous commercial software exist to support engineers. Especially when using composite materials the simulation offers opportunities for optimization of components and manufacturing processes. Within this laboratory, students will be introduced to common software tools and simulation techniques to earn basic knowledge of the methodology.
Contents are:
- deformation and stress analyzes
- modelling of anisotropic properties and laminates
- simulation of manufacturing processes
- optimization methods
Competencies / intended learning achievements
Students will be able to
- built-up models with CAE-tools
- define and assign anisotropic material properties
- analyze stresses and deformations depending on chosen boundary conditions
- simulate simple manufacturing processes
- conduct optimizations
