Contents
Compact overview of three current mathematical topics from the different teaching and research focusses of the Department of Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry & Computer Algebra, Analysis & Stochastics, Technomathematics, Business Mathematics).
Depending on the lecturer and the up-to-dateness, these topics come from the following areas, for example:
- algebraic geometry,
- computer algebra,
- financial mathematics,
- graph theory,
- cryptography,
- coding theory,
- linear, non-linear, integer or multi-criteria optimisation,
- mathematical modelling,
- mathematical statistics,
- game theory,
- location theory,
- stochastics,
- industrial mathematics.
The lecture deals with the theoretical fundamentals of the topic and its practical relevance as well as current developments and applications.
In the integrated seminar, the students independently acquire in-depth knowledge of the topics presented. The students work on exercises and projects with written elaboration and final presentation.
The questions of the projects on the selected topics come from the following categories:
- further theoretical questions,
- history and development of the subject area,
- practical applications of the subject area,
- links to other mathematical disciplines and other subjects,
- implementation possibilities in school lessons,
- relation to (modelling) events with pupils.
Literature
will be announced in the lecture.
Requirements for attendance (informal)
The knowledge imparted in the modules of the teaching profession-related Bachelor's study course (for the teaching profession-specific focus Gym or Rs) is required.
Requirements for attendance (formal)
